Hey Kossacks,
This might be a minority interest, but today sees the results of the European Parliamentary Elections being released.
27 member states of the EU have held elections (all with slight variants of Proportional Representation) to seat the 736 MEPs (and 18 virtual MEPs who will be seated if/when the Lisbon Treaty is ratified), across an electorate of about 350 million people - representing the 500 million citizens of the EU.
So how can you keep abreast of what's happening from the comfort of your own continent...look beneath the fold!! (and come and join us on Internet Talk Radio via Skype or phone)
I'll be on Internet Radio from 6pm British Summer Time (1pm EST?) with Iain Dale (top Conservative blogger) and Hopi Sen (the best Labour blogger around) discussing the British results, especially the rise of the minor parties. Details arehere: http://iaindale.blogspot.com/...
We had a bit of a trial run on Friday (live) and it went pretty well - given that for the 10 hours we were on air we had about 6 months' news: 5 Cabinet Ministers, 27 Council Elections, a by-election and the Press Conference from Hell.
Best online coverage: I'll be monitoring PoliticalBetting.com (where we'll be dissecting primarily the UK results) and my co-DepEd "Double Carpet" will be covering the 'foreign' results over on Political Betting Channel 2
Also, if you are a Twitterer (aren't we all?) you can use hashtags to feed into the monstrously-large Burston-Marstellar Twitter Feed by using the hashtag #eu09.
We'll also be using #uk, #fr, #de to allow for country-by-country filtering of the Twitter Feed - you can download the widget from here: http://www.tweetelect09.eu/...
I'm on Twitter as @Morus1516 and you mihgt want to add @iaindale and @eu09twitlife if logging on for these elections.
I recognise this is not for everyone's tastes, but psephology geeks or students of politics could have a good time so come and follow the weird and wonderful world of multi-lingual democracy across the pond!!
Hope to hear from some of you later on.
