I must first apoligize for my lack of research and investigative reporting skills. All too frequently I depend upon my personal memories of political events which only exist as history to so many here.
I was a bit confused when this healthcare issue arose. I have enjoyed uninterrupted healthcare by some of the finest doctors in the world under a plan with low deductables, co-pays and full drug coverage. It is more expensive than most plans, but I always thought it necessary. Anyhow, I was unaware of the hellhole Americans who are lucky enough to have health insurance are placed in, let alone those victims without coverage. As I learned more, I became an passionate advocate for single payer.
Sorry for the verbiage, but I felt it necessary in order to frame my request....
I would sincerely like to know the following:
How many members of Congress choose to participate in private health insurance plans rather than the government run program?
How much does a member of Congress pay for this coverage?
Does coverage extend to their family members?
How are pre-existing conditions handled?
Has any member of Congress ever been asked to defend their position on this?
This information must exist somewhere in the bowels of government databases, but I doubt I ever would be able to find it. Is there someone out there who's also interested in these answers and doesn't mind spending some time on research? Finally, why do you think that not a single investigative reporter has ever supplied us with this information?
