We know that President Barack Obama reads letters.
We know that in some cases, he answers them.
We even know that sometimes he reads and answers letters about issues important to the GLBT community, promising important changes.
(From a letter, sent by President Obama to Sandy Tsao, Army officer. In the letter, the president promised to seek a repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.)
Many Kossacks, coming from families steeped in Democratic Party history and tradition, are already aware of a statement made by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to his activist supporters:
"I agree with you, I want to do it, now make me do it." --- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
I'm willing to bet that FDR also read and responded to his own fair share of letters from all sorts of Americans. Has Barack Obama gotten one from you yet on the subject of GLBT rights in this country?
Yesterday, Attorney General Holder's Justice Department filed a 54-page motion to dismiss a pending challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Smelt v. United States. The language contained in the brief, according to DKos analysts, compares GLBT marriage to incest. Find the diary by I T here.
As I said:
We know President Obama reads letters. We know he replies to them. We know he has read and replied to letters regarding GLBT rights.
So let's write.

It's time to repeal DOMA. I believe he wants to repeal or revise DOMA. I believe he will, but he needs to hear from us. We elected him. He needs to hear from us.
If you like, post some or all of the text of your letter in the comments. Write from your heart. Be polite, but firm. Tell your story. It may be heard.
