Jeffrey Toobin is one of the few people I actually care for on CNN.
Toobin is normally astute, and is one of the lone bright spots in a network that has gone more wrong and wrong as the years progress. He can certainly write and produce member TV moments.
But last night, Tobin had a "teh stupid" moment, and it highlighted why CNN is in the position that it currently is in.
Unsurprisingly, it came on the epic fail that is Campbell Brown's -"No Bias, No Bull"- show. Though I don't have video of this, here is what Toobin said, in a conversation about Obama slamming Fox News' coverage of him:
"I'm going to do something that I rarely do, I though Sean Hannity made a lot of sense. Barack Obama has gotten more favorable press than any recent politician in American history. No question about that. MSNBC has made an institutional commitment to be the Democratic Fox. It's a pro-Obama network.
CampbellBbrown then adds with her usual idiotic view: "It's not only MSNBC who has clearly taken sides, ABC also."
Um.........what??????????
Pro-Obama network?
Yes, MSNBC is so pro-Obama that they wouldn't invite Liz Cheney a 26th time
MSNBC is so pro-Obama that they wouldn't give Mourning Joke a forum in the morning
MSNBC is so pro-Obama that Pat Buchanan is still chilling out on air. MSNBC is now pro-Obama that Ron Christie is on air all the time.
MSNBC is so pro-Obama that this morning, when news of Bush taking at a press conference (needed correction by Brooke in Seattle)dinner speech about how the "private sector" of the the country will lead the economy again instead of government, they don't even bother to debunk that asinine claim.
This dumb and blasphemous sentiment from the normally competent Toobin is, along with the followup from the normally incompetent Brown, is a prime example of just why the Central News Network is where it is at right now, especially during primetime.
They literally whore to be viewed as the "middleground" network instead of just telling the news and doing news stuff and debunking the aspersions brought on by the likes of Cheney's daughter. I mean hell, on Brown's first night back from the birth of her second child (congrats to her on that), she and her producers decided to have Lizzy Liz on air in their brainless new "The Great Debate" segment with Joan Walsh.
I'm not even going to put that video up, its on Youtube and Think Progress two weeks ago debunked her lies as did Walsh did in that interview. And the reason why I won't put that up is because CNN's decision to have her on there says it all.
Toobin, along with Jack Cafferty, Roland Martin, Fareed Zakaria now (who has surprisingly not shown the arrogance in his almost full one year on that network that he has before in his career in my view), Rick Sanchez occasionally and the always invaluable Christaine Amanpour are the only things really keeping CNN slightly relevant to me.
But even one of their bright spots of the network shows how dim and dark it has become.
(From The Whole Delivery, on Twitter too, peace)
