Riding the DC metro is an entirely new experience, in light of Monday's tragic and deadly accident. Not just due to the seemingly endless delays, and the trains that are full beyond any humane capacity, but also because of the somber mood and the creepy messages that blare throughout the stations "There's a delay on the red line due to an 'incident' at the Fort Totten station."
While the NTSB and WMATA work to find the various factors that caused the accident, it's worth noting that these trains could have long ago been improved. Now former Representative Tom Davis (R-VA) proposed increased funding for the D.C. metro system in the previous 2 congresses. Had this legislation passed in 2006, Monday's accident may not have occurred. "Dr. No" A.K.A. Senator Coburn of Oklahoma not only made it his mission to stop the legislation from passing the Senate, he flaunted the fact. Blue Oklahoma provides a neat little compilation of some of Coburn's comments. Coburn was, of course, backed up by the Heritage Foundation.
It's time to get rid of Coburn, but the only way to do that is with a viable opponent. It's time to Draft current Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry to run for Senate and to let Oklahomans need to know what their Senator's been up to.
Please help by shooting a quick letter to the editor of the Daily Oklahoman, The Journal Record or any/all of the other new sources in the state of Oklahoma. Don't just mention that he flaunted turning down money to the aging DC metro system, but also note he voted against funding for the G.I. Bill and against Children's healthcare but was in favor of funding for border fences, and giving billions to the military. Senator Coburn is clearly saying that American tax dollars are not well spent on the day to day lives of Americans.
Call the Oklahoma Democratic Party and encourage them to actively recruit Brad Henry to run for Senate. (1(800)547-5600). Senator Coburn is already fundraising and has a good head start on any Democratic Candidate but here is a link to the general fund for the Democratic opponent. If you have the spare funds, please help. Finally, if you feel so bold as to call Governor Henry and do your own coaxing you can do that at (405) 521-2342 or to call Senator Coburn and do your own shaming- 202-224-5754 or 405-231-4941.
Dr. No must go. Please do what you can. Thank you for reading. Thanks for your help.
