Trouble may be brewing for Rep. Kirk on the right based on an incident I witnessed this afternoon at the Deerfield 4th of July Parade.
Rep. Kirk was marching through and a guy across the street was screaming, "Traitor, Traitor . . ." At first I thought this was in response to the China comment until he yelled, "Thanks for voting for the biggest tax increase ever." Kirk just smiled and ignored the guy, but you could tell it was uncomfortable for him. The intensity of the heckler was pretty striking.
There is a small, but vocal, local anti-tax contingent in 10th District that could be a problem for Kirk if the Club for Growth starts going after him. If Beck and Limbaugh continue going after him too, he's got trouble from the right. Also he recent divorce may not help him so much with the Christian Right. This could get interesting for Rep. Kirk. He still hasn't announced his plans, but based on the size of his contingent he definitely seems to be running for something.
