The top story on my Yahoo! page right now claims:
You betcha Sarah Palin is still a viable presidential candidate!
Wow, just what I want in my news stories about Presidential politics, a cutesy little lead-in line! Because I'm silly and frivolous that way, you know.
...a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that her support among Republicans is still strong. In fact, her resignation seems to have even slightly boosted her among GOP constituents
...close to 67% of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future. And 71% of them say they would likely vote for her if she ran for president in 2012.
Hence the title of this diary. And this begs the question: what exactly does a politician have to do for Republicans to exclaim "Enough already!", or dismiss him or her with a polite "Thanks, but I'm just not interested"? Apparently sheer idiocy is not a disqualifier, nor is a dangerously high annoyance factor. What could Sarah do to disillusion that adoring 67% of her party?
Top Republican consultant Mary Matalin called Palin's move "brilliant,"
How did the party you strategize for do in that last round of elections again, Mary?
...the poll shows Democrats and Independents are as unhappy with her as they were before
Well thank God for that, at least.
But what would bring about such stark polarization between the parties?
I know, seriously? This ranks up there with the Greatest Unanswered Questions In The Universe. Hmmmm, let me think on that one... why don't Democrats love that cute chipmunk-faced Governor just as much as our GOP brethren?
The author then helpfully points out that the media and the Internet might be to blame for anti-Sarah sentiment. Without bloggers and the Internet, coverage of Sarah would be much more serious and "staunch".
Whether Palin has been unfairly portrayed in the media continues to be a hotly debated issue.
You know, I don't really care about this. I'm just wondering why the question of whether Sarah has anything at all in that head of hers that qualifies her to hold high public office isn't hotly debated. Nay, I wonder why that question hasn't been marked as completely covered, addressed, settled, and filed away in the circular bin.
I'm really at a loss here. I can't even take the GOP seriously anymore. The Sarah-worship is the last straw. We've SEEN her effect on the last election. She clearly helped John McCain... lose big. It's not like her IQ is going to jump 30 points in the next couple of years, but her looks will take a hit. She has the "fresh-n-new" factor going for her in 2008, but she won't have that advantage if she's all over the media until 2012. We already know certain things: Palin is unqualified, and she's not a winner. You've all heard that old definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Time to check the entire GOP into the nearest mental facility. Bill Kristol can be first in line - he's about to blow a gasket, he's pushing for Sarah so hard!
