It it tough living in Connecticut, served in the US Senate as I am by Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman. It's almost enough to cause political schizophrenia.
I've been out of pocket all day, and just learned that one of my Senators is now actively opposing Health Care Reform - while the other wholeheartedly supports it.
I wrote a letter to one of them.
Senator Joseph I Lieberman
Washington, DC
Senator Lieberman:
When I saw that you were one of the "Gang of Six" Centrists or Moderates or whatever you want to call it opposing Health Care Reform under the guise of Bipartisanship, I couldn’t believe it! But then, I wonder why I was surprised. You have opposed President Obama on many other issues as well. You might as well become a Republican.
‘Bipartisanship’ is bogus as a reason for gumming up the works in health care reform. The Republicans are not interested in health care reform or any agenda proposed by the current Administration. They are the Party of NO! and you have given it your support. Thousands of your constituents – and millions of Americans – are without adequate health care coverage, including my insulin dependent 9 year old granddaughter – daughter of a single mom with a part time job who is unable to get health care, especially now that her daughter has an expensive pre-existing condition. She is on the Connecticut ‘HUSKY’ plan, which isn’t paying because the state can’t afford it. The drugstore has called saying they are unable to fill her current prescription because the last ones weren’t paid for.
She can’t wait for you to be "...taking additional time to achieve a bipartisan result..." especially when "bipartisan result" is meaningless in the 111th Congress.
Sincerely,
