When asked about why the Republicans have not advanced a health-care plan of their own, Republican National Committee Michael Steele said, "I don't do policy." Well, then, just what the hell do you do, Mr. Steele?
Republican National Committee Michael Steele appeared at the National Press Club today in Washington, D.C. During his appearance, he characterized the Democratic concept of a mix of public and private insurance as "socialism."
Mr. Steele was asked, several times, why the Republicans have not actually released its plan for health care reform. He was also asked about specific policy proposals. Steele responded, ""Look I don't do policy," he said. "I'm not a legislator. My point in coming here was to establish a tone."
OK, Mr. Steele, if you do not "do policy," why did you send me that push-poll several weeks ago in the mail, asking for my opinions about health care and a number of other issues?
I happened to get the "Obama Agenda Survey" because I am a registered Republican. However, my utter disgust with the direction that the Republican Party has taken makes it ever more difficult to continue that registration. (By the way, if you are not one of the chosen few to whom Mr. Steele has sent a personal copy, you can see Part II of the push-poll, which deals with Foreign Policy matters, here.)
Could it be, Mr. Steele, that you mailed me that poll -- and the postage-prepaid return envelope that came with it -- not to actually get my opinion, so that you and the rest of the RNC could formulate some intelligent and coherent policies, but rather merely to get a donation from me?
If you don't do policy, Mr. Steele, then just what the Hell do you do??? Simply collect money and stand up on a stage and make a fool of yourself, and by extension, the rest of us who have registered as Republicans? And what tone are you trying to establish, other than dissonance?
By the way, your beyond-cutting-edge, off-the-hook web site looks pretty lame. The Issues link simply takes me to an HTML or a PDF version of the 2008 Platform. That one worked out pretty well for us, didn't it?
I like the look of this web site much better.
