Thanks to African-American playwright and television producer Tyler Perry, 65 children from a Philadelphia area daycamp are going to DisneyWorld.
Perry's best known for his Madea character that has led to a series of independent films that are especially successful with African-American audiences.
He also has two popular sitcoms, House of Payne and Meet the Browns on WTBS, the cable superstation.
Nothing will ever make them forget the overt racism they faced at the hand of a private Philadelphia-area swim club but this may ease the pain:
You’ll recall the black and Hispanic children from the camp made headlines this month after officials at the suburban Philadelphia Valley Swim Club allegedly denied them entrance to the private pool and publicly worried the water wings-sporting small fry would "change the complexion" of the facility.
Perry has made $75 million in the past year and apparently was so moved by the kids' story, he helped the best way he knew how.
Since you all have put me in the position to be able to do something I feel like by me doing this we are all doing it together. So on Aug 1 through 3, I’m sending these kids to Disney World, and then to a Disney water park. I want them to know that for every act of evil that a few people will throw at you, there are millions more who will do something kind for them. This is all about the kids.
