Harry Reid is, and always has been, a weak kneed Democratic Senator. Why he was elected Majority Leader can only be seen as a testament to how weak the majority of Democratic senators are.
The problem is, weak as the Senate Democrats are, they will never vote to replace him. He is the Majority Leader as long as two things happen.
- The Democrats retain control of the Senate.
- Harry Reid is the Senior Senator from Nevada.
The diary at the top of the rec list:
UnF***ingbelievable: Harry Reid Delays HCR Vote FOR THE GOP!!
by I said GOOD DAY sir
states:
Reid said Republicans, who have shown intense resistance to President Obama’s push for health care reform, had asked for more time to work
out a package.
"We will do what we can to make sure their concerns are not buried," Reid said.
My response to that is, "Who gives a rat's ass, what Republicans think?" They are too weak in numbers and public opinion to influence Health Care Reform. All they can do is go on Fox News and cry about the mean socialist Democrats. The only way Health Care Reform gets defeated is with Democratic help.
So Harry, perhaps it's time for you to go. We, Joe Q. Public Citizen, can't vote you out of your leadership position, but we can vote your ass out of the Senate. The downside to this, is we will more than likely gain a Republican in your place.
My question is: "Is that worse?"
I don't believe so, and here' why. The magic number 60 is a joke. Democrats like Nebraska's Ben Nelson or Joe Lieberman will always cross the line. If we have 59, eh who gives a flip. We'll work to pick up a progressive #60 somewhere else.
Secondly, we get a new Majority Leader. Chuck Schumer? Russ Feingold? I'll take those. There are several others more than capable of doing a much better job. Someone who is interested in leading in the leadership position.
As this was more of a rant, after seeing Reid's caving to Republicans yet again, than a well thought out diary, please tell me why my thinking is wrong. Addition by subtraction is still addition.
