I need cat help.
She's 18, she's had lymphatic leukemia for a year and a half (NOT the virus), went through chemo, had a very rough time but went into remission for a year, with a few minor episodes, got pancreatitis, nearly died, then recovered. She seems to have gone through another episode of pancreatitis, but I can't get her to eat more than a tablespoon or half a tablespoon of pot roast. (I've tried feeding her EVERYTHING under the rainbow - roasted chicken, eggs, tuna, 5 kinds of cat food, baby food, chicken broth, pot roast, steak.) It's been more than a week since she's eaten more than a tablespoon of food a day... She doesn't seem feverish or lethargic any more, and she has become very affectionate and somewhat more energetic (jumped on the bed for the first time in over a week yesterday).
The anti nausea meds and the prednisone plus the mirtazipine don't seem to be having any positive effect on her appetite.
Also, it is fairly warm here. We've had a major heat wave, but I do have air conditioning. She spends much of the day in the coolest room in the house. She is drinking lots of water and peeing normally.
She also has only 2 teeth left, one of which is pretty bad off. It might be causing her pain. I only feed her very small very chopped up food that she really doesn't need to chew. Tooth extractions would require trauma and general anesthesia, and it might not be the problem with her not eating. She STILL may not eat... She will still have the cancer.
I'm not sure about going another round of chemo on her since it was so hard on her, she suffered so much, and besides she can't do it unless she starts eating regularly anyways.
The vet thinks it's also possible the cancer has spread to her liver.
If she was not eating and not affectionate, avoiding me, it would seem fairly obvious that she was ready to go, but since she seems not so lethargic and purring and cuddling like crazy, but just not eating enough, I'm not so sure.
I just wish I could get her to eat....
Ideas?
