An excerpt:
"At home in the family's apartment on Connecticut Avenue NW, Fred Holliday succumbed to kidney cancer at age 39. He probably had had the disease for years, but with no health insurance, he couldn't afford the tests that might have explained the night sweats, fatigue and bloody urine. By the time he finally got a job that came with health coverage and got the tests he needed, it was too late: The cancer had spread and was inoperable."
At the end of August this woman will lose her and her sons' health insurance.
I, personally, know something of her fears. When my husband retires next year, I will lose my health insurance. My husband will transition to Medicare. I am not old enough for Medicare, and I am uninsurable (at any price) due to a pre-existing condition.
All the media coverage about this issue is focused on the political and legislative machinations. What's gotten lost are the personal stories. Please email Milbank's story to everyone you know, and post it to your Facebook page.
Thanks.
