Everything was fine until we started talking about healthcare. That's when she told me she opposes the Obama health plan, because it's going to cost her and people like her a lot more, and that they were going to have to wait a lot longer to get treatments.
Grrrrrrr!
I asked her a simple question: "Do you like your Medicare?"
"Yes"
"Then why don't you want the rest of us to have access to something similar?"
Then, I told her that the talk about the government killing grannies is a distortion of a Republican offered amendment to reimburse doctors for counseling about living wills, something that everyone agrees is a good idea. "This is funded by the medical-industrial complex, and they're trying to scare you."
"They're doing a good job," she replied. "Me, and your aunt and uncle."
When I got home, I sent her links to these two segments that Rachael Maddow did this week.

Here's how my mother responded:
These are both excellent.
Does give a whole new slant on health care. Thanks for sending.
So, please check on seniors you know. Make sure they're not being taken-in by the mis-information and scared to death, and that you're armed with the facts.
