Given Rep. Price's stand-up support for health-care reform, it's critical that we take every opportunity to stand up for him.
Get a carpool together or bike over to show our neighbors that we're serious about health-care reform, and we aren't going to be bullied out of it.
On Monday, Rep. Price spoke out about the need for reform at an open house and luncheon for Wake Health Services, a private nonprofit health center, in observance of National Health Care Center Week. He was joined there by Rep. Brad Miller, who recently suspended his townhall forum activities because of threats to his life.
Both Price and Miller plan to continue to speak out about health care in telephone townhalls.
After President Obama's visit to Raleigh last month, Price gave a strong endorsement of the president's health-care reform agenda.
"Fixing America’s health care system is not just about the uninsured," said Rep. Price. "It’s also about assuring those who are covered that their health care can’t be taken away or its costs spiral out of control. Middle-class Americans face increasing premiums and eroding benefits as increased costs threaten family, business, and government budgets. We must fix it, but overcoming the forces of the status quo will not be easy.
Some in Washington care more about scoring political points than achieving pragmatic progress, and they will do anything to kill reform. The President made the case for action, and he was particularly effective in laying out the importance of reform to family budgets and to our national economic well-being."
We cannot let our legislators be cowed by crowds or shut down by threats. Take care of business tonight in Durham so we can take care of ourselves, our families, and our nation with quality, affordable health care.
