Very short diary.
Mea culpa.
However, this is the issue of the decade, and every vote in the Senate is crucial during the current august recess.
Present 'snout counting' (h/t to one of my favorite authors, Harry Turtledove) still leaves us a short of the 'necessary, committed 60 votes' in the US Senate.
As of today, please add my senator, the Honorable Maria Cantwell, to the column labeled, "YES on Public Option".
I've spoken with a staffer at her DC office this morning regarding the issue of a public stance on the Public Option. The staffer encouraged me to disclose this information to anyone that I could, so, here I am, spreading the word!
The staffer confirmed for me that the senator has taken a public stance in favor of the Public Option plan.
You may see a brief story on the issue here, in the regional www.seattlepi.com.
Thank you, Senator Cantwell, for standing up for your constituents on this important legislative issue.
Oh, by-the-by, our local congressman, Brian Baird (D-WA|3rd CD), is also now publicly supporting the Public Option plan, with the caveat that the plan be self-supporting and not federally subsidized.
It's great to live in a blue-and-bluer state, and better yet when my elected representatives work for myself and my fellow washingtonians instead of for the special interests!
UPDATE: I am not a diary pimp, I've never had Rec List diary, but I'm asking, as this news would be a positive spin for our side if it hit the cable news today, if you would please 'rec it up'. Thanks all.
thank you for the response!
UPDATE 2: For those looking for somewhere to see a list of who has taken a public stance in Support of the Public Option, try www.standwithdrdean.com
Per their current list, they are a bit behind, but it is a nearly comprehensive list, and should be updated to reflect current information soon, I hope.
UPDATE 3: per my diary of yesterday
Calling all SW WA kossacks Townhall meeting hosted by Rep. Brian Baird, tonight, August 18. Amphitheater at the Clark County Fairgrounds. See you there at 7:00 pm PST.
UPDATE 4 from the comments, by Dave from Oregon. Please click here and add your vote and let's move that 12% supporting to something a bit more progressive, eh?
UPDATE 5 from the comments by rickeagle.
Credit where credit is due to Northwest Progressive Institute was the original posting on Sen. Cantwell's first public stance on Public Option.
KEEP CALLING, EMAILING and WRITING YOUR SENATORS AND REPS.
WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
