I have been watching the developments of the Health Care Reform debate as they have unfolded. It has been interesting to see how there can be so much determination to allow people to profit from the misfortunes of others. It reminded me of the movie "Gangs of New York".
I have been watching the developments of the Health Care Reform debate as they have unfolded. It has been interesting to see how there can be so much determination to allow people to profit from the misfortunes of others. It reminded me of the movie "Gangs of New York". I had watched so many other American movies that left me convinced that if someone's house was on fire the town would form a line and pass buckets of water along to save that persons house. This is the chain that I always dreamed would form in m society. The links that bind people together and save them from terrible things that may happen to their neighbor. I take it he "Gangs of New York" had some sort of historic accuracy and I was fascinated to see how the gangs would manipulate a situation in which a building was burning down so they could rummage through it and take what they wanted leaving the victims with nothing. It was clearly profiting from the disaster of another human. The themes that stood out to me the most were mostly about the injustices in society and how the rich and powerful always got a free pass.
I cannot understand how US politics works anymore. I don't think citizen really factor into the equation. Take for instance the stimulus package. It doesn't take a genius to realize how a catastrophic event can seriously damage a country's economy. Something as simple as putting aside money to be prepared for a flu pandemic was shut down. Instead of facing the music for their poor judgment this is how the head of the RNC reacted when he was confronted about the issue. I guess they can do no wrong and there's always the option of screaming and shouting their way out of it. I guess if a way to make money from the situation it would have been fine.
I have another example of how ridiculous this believing in the corporations can be. A few weeks ago the federal government tried to get states to ban texting while driving. While watching Fox news this idea was ridiculed as trying to make the US a nanny state. Fast forward to today and some opportunist comes up with software that tells you not to text buy sensing that you are going over 10mph and giving you an alert. This makes it on to fox news as a good idea. I have never heard of anything more ridiculous in my life since it only works for the Blackberry. I think legal action as serious in cases of DUI is the way to go, but since someone came up with a way to make money that's supposed to be better regardless of how stupid the idea is.
I guess the whole country is really run by a bunch of gangs and they just try to find a group of people with strong convictions such as religion who will vote for them. hey know they don't have to develop their positions n anything and they can just pretend to feel the pain of their supporters when they are in public.
