This is not another diary about THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE OF YOUR LIFE - for that, check out anything written by Slinkerwink. Blue Dogs Talk About Voting Against The Public Option! is the latest.
This about your and your generosity in coming to the aid of Leo, a Veteran, and his wife who have fallen through the cracks of a broken healthcare system. After the jump I'll fill you in on progress and some newly identified needs.
UPDATE ON MY DAD:
Following a 5-way heart by-pass, my Dad - 87 on Sept. 6th - is doing really well. After surgery [which I handled rather nicely by having by blood sugar spike an all-time high and then drop once I took my insulin a bit late. When it dropped, I fell asleep in my motel room. I woke up & called the hospital to see how he was doing. He was already awake!], as I was saying, after surgery I went in to see him. He was trying to say something, but there was a tube down his throat. A couple of hours later, the tube came out. I went back in. His first question? How's "Leo?" Glad you asked.
UPDATE ON "LEO"
This past week all of the heavy hauling in getting "Leo" ready to find a new place has been done by the daughter of a Kossack - and I can't thank her enough. We'll call her "Patience". The proud momma will have to wave to us because I don't know her screen name. Patience and Scott from the KINship Project either have resolved or are about to resolve any past credit problems. That is a huge hurdle to get over.
I talked with "Leo" tonight. Tomorrow he and "Patience" have some carefully selected apartments to see.
My old professor Buckminster Fuller always claimed that if you clearly defined a problem, the answer becomes self-evident. Here's my prayer: Patience and Leo and Mrs. Leo have that problem nailed.
Meanwhile, a few of you kind Kossacks have offered the very best gift people about to move can ever get - cleaning service. Please wave, if you are here. I have very big kisses to bestow. This evening I talked with one of them and we may have figured out one problem: How to avoid donating 12,321 sweaters and 1 pair of shoes. More on this tomorrow.
New Problem - The Same Old Problem, just worse:
Leo's class schedule beginning Monday:
Monday: 11:40am - 7:40pm (Depart Irving via bus 8:40am, return home 10:40pm).
Tuesday: 9:00am - 5:30pm (Depart Irving via bus 6:00am, return home 8:30pm).
Wednesday: 11:40am - 7:40pm (Depart Irving via bus 8:40am, return home 10:40pm).
Thursday: 9:00am - 5:30pm (Depart Irving via bus 6:00am, return home 8:30pm).
Until they move, this going to be a nightmare. Your suggestions and solutions gratefully appreciated.
MONEY - Scott will have to address that tomorrow, I'm guessing we are closing in on it. If you want to dig in you have to Scott's diary and clic on the link. We will have a mailing address tomorrow.
