I diaried on this before here. Basically, my lovely hometown, a picturesque farming community that holds a fantastically beautiful tulip festival annually, is nestled in the foothills of the Cascades, and has stunning vistas of the San Juan Islands has decided to mar all of that with a 1000' by 1000' billboard decreeing itself as "An Intolerant, Divided and Hateful Community."
Wait, what? Okay, maybe not. Slow down, breathe, let's go across the jump.

The mayor stopped short of making a formal announcement, but it appears almost certain that controversial talk-show pundit Glenn Beck, a Mount Vernon native, will hold an event here on Sept. 26.
The event is still being finalized, Mayor Bud Norris said Friday afternoon, adding that he’ll make a statement Monday.
When asked if the event was a sure thing, he said, "I’d say it’s 99 percent."
But... why would we bring Beck to town? Surely there can't be an event planned involving tomatoes and rotten eggs, and a blindfold for his truly?
Stop calling me Shirley, and no there is not.
They're giving him the key to the city, and gosh darn it, ain't no amount of public voicing will matter on it. What's the mayors job anyway, other than representing his constituents in a non-partisan manner? I think this fits that bill flawlessly. Hmpf.
I'll keep this short, save the bitterness for later.
While late notice, Mark Ooman, President of the Skagit Valley Young Dems, has organized a protest outside city hall today at 4. If you can make it, they'd love support.
If you can't make it from afar, maybe take a moment to tell the office exactly how ridiculous of an idea it is to give someone who hates America a great honor.
Our valley is the hometown of Edward R. Murrow. I'm sadly thankful he's passed so he can't see what a disgrace the media has become.

UPDATE: My mom snapped this and sent it to me. I'm sadly stuck 30 minutes away preparing for work, but it looks like a fun force out there. Hopefully more will grow and there will be further plans as time goes on. I'm sure the event, should it happen, will be chaotic.
