It's amazing to me that parents who are protesting President Obama's back-to-school message on Tuesday are the same people who brought us electronic eavesdropping, watch-listing peaceful protesters, the (un)Patriot(ic) Act, trying to institute national i.d. cards, and a host of other privacy infringements. The teabaggers who played Big Brother for 8 years are now afraid that President Obama's pep talk for students on Tuesday will be used to secretly "indoctrinate" them into some political cult.
This transparent attempt to derail anything positive President Obama tries to do is getting stupider and stupider:
Death panels! Indoctrinating kids! How ridiculous does it have to get before these scare tactics are seen for what they are, rather than being blown up by the MSM into a "national frenzy," when really they are just the national fringe?
I want my kids to hear President Obama's back-to-school message Tuesday and will keep them home from school if necessary.
According to the White House, it's planned as an inspirational message
entirely about encouraging kids to work hard and stay in school.
Not a controversial proposition, considering that in some states the drop-out rate is 50%.
Former President George H.W. Bush gave a nationally-televised speech to students at Alice Deal Middle School, where my son Jacob goes. Bush encouraged kids to study hard and not use drugs. The other Bush talked about policy ("No Child Left Behind") and so did Reagan ("tax cuts"). But Orwellian conservatives--who condoned secret spying, useless color-coded terrorist alerts, watchlisting peaceful protestors, the (un)Patriot(ic) Act, and a host of other privacy infringements--are now crying "Indoctrination!"
Indoctrination is teaching intelligent design as if it were science. Indoctrination is telling kids that global warming is not really going on. Indoctrination is teaching that abstinance only is birth control.
Give me a break. Obama's speech an attempt to motivate students, not indoctrinate them into a political orthodoxy. It's a pep talk, not an effort to spread socialist ideology. This transparent attempt to disrupt anything positive President Obama tries to do is getting stupider and more desperate:
Death panels! Obama is racist! Indoctrinating kids!
How ridiculous does it have to get before these hyperbolic scare tactics are seen for what they are, rather than being blown up by the MSM into a "national frenzy," when really they are just the national fringe?
