So yesterday I read this Reced diary Healthcare Reform Goes Viral on Facebook and decide I want to join in the fun.
So I posted this statement on my status for facebook yesterday:
No one should die because they cannot afford healthcare. No one should go broke because they get sick, and no one should be tied to a job because of pre-existing condition. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day.
I got one response from one of my "friends" whom I have not spoken to since we worked together like 10 years ago.
Rich:
If you are inferring that our government can do a better job running our healthcare than they ran the "Cash for Clunkers" then you should trade in you Boxter in for a Prius and buy yourself a brain.
What a fucker huh?
So here is the ensuing thread on my FB page...
weelzup:
Wow Rich... good to hear from you too. I know you, should keep insulting people... because I'm sure that will get Republicans to win next time... people like that. Way to grow the "party of ideas" brother.
weelzup:
I take it you think people should die if they can't afford healthcare. You must be a blast at parties.
Rich:
Most people can afford healthcare and actually like the healthcare they have. I have been all over the world and have had one-to-one conversations with many friends who just hate their socialized situation. Look around a bit before you try to try to drag politics int our FB community. And yes... I AM a blast at parties. Cheers!
weelzup:
Rich, the #1 reason for bankruptcy in this country is due to health care. Keep in mind that most of the people who filed for that reason HAVE health insurance but were either denied coverage or have surpassed the limits of their coverage. Your assertion that "Most people can afford healthcare" doesn't seem to hold up when disaster strikes. A recent study out of California shows that since 2002 22% of health care claims were denied by their insurance company. Yes, these people OWN insurance and are denied (talk about death panels)... the system is broken. What gets me is how when a government run OPTION is offered for those who don't like their private insurance, the free market capitalists quickly run for the hills in the face of a bit of competition. If govt. run health care is so inefficient, explain why 1, the private insurers fear it, and 2, Medicare (govt. run) uses $.02-$.03 of every dollar for overhead whereas private insurance companies take $.10-$.15 out of every dollar for profit and overhead?
You know Rich, I know I am just a dumb liberal and all, but you need to come at me with more than just some anecdotal evidence of people unhappy with "socialized" medicine and insults about getting a brain to convince anyone that you are right. Try coming with some facts and ideas of your own and tell me what you are FOR as opposed to what you are AGAINST.
And as for bringing politics to MY Facebook page... I will continue to post whatever the hell I want, and you can either respond with insults, or attempt to make a reasoned/rational argument... either way I respect your opinion, I just think it falls short.
So that is where we leave off.
Let me know if you guys got a response.
I will keep you updated if he posts a response.
Happy Friday!
[Update] His response was to invite me to lunch next week... I accepted (I fear no conservative).
