As a teacher who had to send home Opt Out letters with my government class students, PLEASE, (yes, I'm shouting) call your local school board and politely object to this silliness.
- Stay in school and work hard is a message students need to have reinforced.
- It is a GOOD thing for our President to care and address our youth with positive messages.
- It is a good and patriotic thing for our youth to show their respect for the office by listening to a President address them about one of their key responsibilities as young citizens -- namely learning.
You can help, even if you aren't a parent! How? Below the fold.
While you're on-line, just Google your local district name to get their email or phone number.
Leave a message by phone.
Send an email.
Please, help us teachers bring some sanity back into this mess.
And, you don't have to be a parent! As citizens of your community, you have an interest in the children in your community (that you are giving your tax dollars to have educated) listening to the President encourage them to do their best.
I'm tired of having a few batty people with passion bullying the powers that be into acting like cowards. But, that is exactly how they will react unless adults rationally and calmly make their voices heard, too.
So, please, help the teachers in your local schools by taking a few minutes to just email you local superintendents to ask that the President's message be aired and to tell them that such a silly, unpatriotic and downright ridiculous challenge to legitimate authority should not be coddled.
