Remember the song by Sting during the hay day of the Cold War: "I hope the Russians Love their Children Too." That was a good song, and a better postulate. Because it assumes that if the Russians love their children, they won’t go blowing the world to smithereens and risk themselves being blown up in response.
Here's something I don't understand: For all the vitriol spouted by those on the extreme right, you’d assume that they simply don’t need health care...ever. Why else would they argue for protecting the insurance companies?
It can’t possibly be that for all the stories of people who have been denied care because of an insurance company policy, that they are only Democrats. Some Republicans have GOT to be in that group. Am I missing something? So let’s assume that some Americans who happen to vote Republican ALSO have horrific health care denial stories. Am I to assume that they don’t want reform?
Nixon didn’t bring up health care reform [edit: this is not accurate, oops!]
Ford didn’t bring up health care reform
Reagan didn’t bring up health care reform
George Bush, Sr. didn’t bring up health care reform
George Bush, Jr. didn’t bring up health care reform
Clearly, there’s a pattern here. And it’s that Republicans simply don’t believe in health care reform. Period. Ok, if that’s the case, then when they get sick, or have a child who is born sick, then they must be getting quality affordable care, right? Where is this quality affordable care? Is it a secret? Do I have to sign a loyalty oath to have access to it?
If the answer is that Republicans want to protect the status quo only because they hate change, then Democrats should go it alone. My kids get sick. I get sick. I don’t want to find out that I have to lose my house because of it. If I do, I guess I’ll go live with my Republican sister. She’s definitely not in favor of change.
