Milwaukee radio talk show host, Vicki Mckenna, has always been a person full of hate and full of inaccurate terms to describe Obama. She has in the past referred to him as a communist, a marxist, etc., the same pile of BS spouted by all the usual suspects on the right. Today, she added "tyrant," and while I am sure that others may have used that noun as well, this was my first time hearing it. Action, I felt, was necessary.
I decided to look up just what the dictionary definition of a tyrant was and inform this individual that she need to bone up on her use of such terms and use them more accurately. Here is the email that I sent her. I do not, as of yet, have a response, nor do I expect to receive one. That might be beyond her ability to do without going off on an Obama hating rant.
Here is the email I sent to her:
You are entitled to your opinion, but you are also entitled to use that organ housed in your skull: Your brain. For you to refer to Pres. Obama as a 'tyrant' shows your lack of skill in the use of such terms. You don't have to agree with anything he says or proposes, but to cut anyone down with inaccurate terms shows just what you are lacking in a proper discussion of the issues.
In order to assist you, here is the Webster Dictionary definition of just what a tyrant is:
* Main Entry: ty·rant
* Pronunciation: \ˈtī-rənt\
* Function: noun
* Etymology: Middle English tyraunt, from Anglo-French tyran, tyrant, from Latin tyrannus, from Greek tyrannos
* Date: 14th century
1 a : an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution b : a usurper of sovereignty
2 a : a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally b : one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power
I am sorry, but Obama is not oppressive and is not harsh by any means in the use of authority. Neither is he unrestrained by "law or constitution." He has not abused the authority given him simply because if he did, even I would be wondering whether or not an action like impeachment would be desirable. He does not possess absolute power and he certainly has not usurped "sovereignty."
Please be more careful in your use of terms like 'tyrant.' Take the time to choose your words well, and you will certainly express your opinions more eloquantly. To do otherwise does a disservice to your listeners and your position as a respected radio personality.
Enjoy your weekend and read your dictionary a little more closely.
Obama is not a tyrant by any means. I won't even go so far as to say that GWB was a tyrant, although some may argue that he (or Cheney) tried. I felt it was time to hold these people accountable for the terms they use and attempt to educate them.
p.s. I don't put out diaries very often, so please forgive any mistakes in format.
