I am a photographer, and as such, I like to take my time when setting up photos and making sure that I have just the right shot. Last week I went to visit Lake Harriet, and joined a community of Minnesotans who enjoy the public parks, gardens, and hiking trails, and get their daily dose of fitness!
WHEE (Weight, Health, Eating and Exercise) is a community support diary for Kossacks who are currently or planning to start losing, gaining or maintaining their weight through diet and exercise or fitness. I have recently moved, as those of you who follow the Sunday morning Turtle Diary know, and I moved into a city that I had very little appreciation of the first time I was here in 1996-97, mainly because I was heads-down doing my best to make a success out of my first outing as a software development consultant "making the big bucks." But now that 12 years have passed and I have a solid reputation and credenzas, I don't have anything more to prove professionally (ya think?) so I take a certain joy in the 128 hours a week I'm not at work. And so I went out to Lake Harriet and put together a blog based upon my experience walking through the pain of my on-the-job knee-injury to join what I call the "Lake Harriet Outdoor Fitness Club."
There may actually be something called the Lake Harriet Fitness Club, I don’t know and didn’t look it up, but what I mean by it is, I felt adequately guilty after taking Saturday and Sunday "off" and nursing my damaged knee – according to the "old" plan, Saturday is "rest day" anyway, but Sunday was not – that I put on my workout clothes and headed out to place I photographed briefly and keep running into in the car when I try to get from point A to point B in south Minneapolis: Lake Harriet. It is a hugely popular community exercise, swimming, running, band venue, gardens, and abuts an enormous cemetery, a community-maintained Rose Garden, a bird sanctuary, and who knows what else. Most of it seems to have been dated 1990, so it must have been quite new when I was first in the area. At any rate, it was a gorgeous venue and since I’m out of Squeaky’s house and had exhausted the photographic possibilities of fungus and flora photography at Moir Park anyway, a new huge city park beckoned to get me on my feet, bending my sore knee, and walking again.
Big mistake, since I crippled myself doing it, and ended up with ice packs on my knee...! but nonetheless, I did get photos!
My initial destination: the Band Shell - it turned out to be about half a mile away on foot.
Twenty minutes later: I made it! View looking into the sun.
Then! I treated myself ater my 1.5 miles of walking, to taking photos of the Roberts Rose Garden.... now if a turtle can't stop and photograph er smell the roses, then who can?

Some of the flowerbeds
A white hybrid rose with pink speckles just adorable. I think (rummage rummage) it was named the Honey Perfume.
Another wide shot showing another photographer busy at work hunting the perfect shot of these gorgeous flowers.
Take a block and share your experience(s)!
