Andrew Sullivan is a conservative (small c) writer and blogger with The Atlantic. He had an interesting post: No Republicans for Health Care Reform. In his own succinct way, Drew (I call him that in my head) says what many have been saying for months:
No one in the Congressional Limbaugh-run GOP will back anything this president does. Not only that; they will assault him, race-bait him and insult him in a continuous reel of populist bile.
This is also what many of my Republican friends have been saying for months- but not with pride. They accept that we have President Obama and they are proud because they think that shows the strength of this country. As a guy said to me over cocktails downtown: "I don't see France having a black president, now would they?"
But these are not the people being listened to- The Republican guys(gals) trying to bust a hump, incurring real costs for health insurance and not knowing how the economy is playing out. Sometimes wondering if heir business will survive the year. Same as their Democrat neighbors.
As Drew says, the racists and the crazies are the ones being listened to, and this party has no intention, none, of working with this President. And the stupid Blue Dogs who think watering down reform is a good idea for the sake of one Republican vote are deluding themselves.
How sad that it takes Andrew Sullivan to call them out.
