Yesterday's rally in St. Paul featured a call in from Dennis Kucinich and Dr. Paul Hochfeld, one Mad As Hell Doctor, will be featured on the Bill Press Show, 7:10a CT/ 8:10aEST.
We're all a bit "Mad As Hell" over health care reform, but these doctors are channeling that energy into a movement...
The Mad As Hell Doctors have hit the road in their MAH Winnebago Care-A-Van, standing firmly on the side of a single-payer, government-run and taxpayer funded health care system where everybody is covered -- no matter what. Their motto..."Everybody In, Nobody Out!" and they believe that the financial cost of health care is killing citizens, the economy and small businesses -- and will ultimately destroy the government.
They left Oregon state on September 8th and have held health care rallies and picked up supporters across Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Minnesota. In Denver, they were joined by Dr. Margaret Flowers:
From an interview in Mankato
Dr. Marc Sapir says, "I think health care is a human right. I don't think we can have a democracy if we don't afford the right for everyone to have health care."And that's the message they plan to deliver in 26 cities over 22 days.Dr. Barbara Blaylock says, "It's been incredibly encouraging to see the enthusiasm with which we have been meet."Bryan Piatt says, "The group currently has about ten doctors taking part and more people are invited to join as they go along. All of them say they are very passionate about health care."Dr. Marc Sapir says, "We have nothing without our health. It's our lives...the fundamental basis of our lives."The group says they want a single payer health care system and that insurance companies do nothing but complicate the system.Dr. Barbara Blaylock says, "As much as 30 percent of healthcare dollars go to support the administrative overhead and profits of the insurance companies."The doctors say to put those dollars to good use... the United States needs to take a lesson from other countries around the world.Dr. Marc Sapir says, "All the rest of the developed countries in the world have single-payer health care systems where there is a government fund to make sure everyone has access to health care they need. We need it in this country or we are going to destroy our economy and destroy our population. Our public deserves it."And so the group loads up and heads to the next city.Their tour ends at the end of September on the steps of congress in Washington D.C.In Mankato, Bryan Piatt, News 12.
Their ultimate goal is a Washington D.C. Rally on September 30th in Lafayette Square Park from 4pm - 7pm. Along the way, they'll be stopping in cities across the country. The schedule for the next few days is:
