Before anybody pounces on me for this article title, let me caveat that I'm Jewish, and I can have a sense of humor when it comes to the likes of Glenn Beck.
And Glenn Beck clearly is missing a few cards in the humor deck or he's dumb-as-a-stump serious when it comes to his call to make September 28 a day of fasting and prayer, when it comes to saving the country from his "evil nemesis" - President Barack Obama. Here's Keith Obermann talking all about it:
Never mind that September 28 is the start of Yom Kippur. In essence, he's co-opting a serious holiday - in fact, the holiest days of the year if you're Jewish. Which gives me an idea...
Remember when Bill O'Reilly decided that the liberal media had declared war on Christmas? Now, Christmas is clearly a big holiday, although Easter is certainly the one with more solemnity on par with Yom Kippur.
Well, I think it's time we struck back. I think Glenn Beck has fired the first salvo in the conservative media's war against the Jewish High Holy Days.
I don't know what Beck's background is, but let's face facts: My peebs aren't exactly known for their conservative pedigree. We are a reasonably reliable Democratic voting block (other than Joe Lieberman and Eric Cantor), and have been for years. Heck, we even finally got Arlen Spectre over to the right side, and he was never really sitting in the most conservative part of the GOP anyway.
All kidding aside, on a good day Glenn Beck usually comes across as a racist ass. Well, now - intentionally or not - he can add some slightly anti-semitic tendencies to the list.
I'm sorry, but after sitting through two years of this War on Christmas BS, and being told that saying, "Happy Holidays," to Christians is somehow insulting (whoops, my mistake, I guess Christmas isn't a holiday then), to now have this anti-intellectual, would-be conservative-saviour-of-the-universe co-opt Yom Kippur for his fringe political agenda is just too much.
Methinks, come September 28, Mr. Beck's got some atoning to do. 'Nuff said.
