I'll begin by saying that John Edwards was stupid to cheat on his spouse. I would have said "...and then run for President" if Bill Clinton, John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson hadn't done the same, and if scores of current and past Representatives, Senators, and Governors hadn't also done the same before running for their offices, so I didn't think that part of the conventional wisdom was important enough to include, especially when his opponent--John McCain--would have also been an adulterer who mistreated his previous wife who now hates his guts and he is still married to the millionaire mistress that he cheated on that ex-wife with who he still left after she was injured in an accident. So, Edwards would have been deemed scum, but depending on the coverage, his opponent also could have been considered scum, and with the bottom falling out of the economy, Edwards still would have been the scum who was considered better at handling the economy, by the public.
But anyway, with all of that said, if the media are so concerned with the Edwards affair, then I would like to know two things:
One, who leaked the details of the affair to the National Enquirer. Why doesn't the lazy media find that out if they think it's such a national need for the public to know every detail of the affair. Does the National Enquirer have a Medium or a Psychic on staff, or did someone leak the story to the Enquirer? That's as important a story than the affair.
Two, who is on the DC Madam's list? They care so much about infidelity, then why don't they tell the public who is on the DC Madam's list? There are probably a lot of names up there, I'm sure. But, of course the reason why they won't is because a lot of their "friends" are up there, and probably some of the media themselves are up there. Edwards' problem was being stupid and believing that he was a part of the "in crowd" (which I kept shouting on his blog since 2004 that he was not), where all of these guys cheat so he probably assumed that him doing it wouldn't make that much of a difference since so many other people in Congress and other Presidents have done it. He should have known that as soon as he screwed up, they were going to pounce on him like a cat on a mouse, because they didn't want him anywhere near the White House, and the corporate media is nothing more than the PR firm of Corporate America.
John Edwards was the one candidate of the wealthy class who was constantly talking about income inequality and corporate favoritism, and our culture of rewarding wealth instead of work. And regardless of whether you believed he was "sincere" in his concerns over it based on what you know now and his voting record prior to having his "Come to Jesus" moment on economic issues whenever that was, Corporate America believed that he meant it, which is an important barometer, in my opinion.
So, who leaked the story to the Enquirer and who is on the DC Madam's List?
If they want to keep talking about the Edwards affair, then tell the public those two things, and let's see where that leads, since there is nothing more important these days in our TMZ culture than a juicy sex scandal.
