A few weeks back I stumbled onto a cause page on face book called "Hats off for cancer".
Normally I don't waste a lot of time on "cause" pages, although from time to time I find one that seems like a good thing and I'll throw my support behind it.
This particular cause had a website too, so I spent some time checking it out.
When I went to the Hats off for cancer webpage, I knew almost immediately this was something I wanted to be a part of.
This is an annual event (3rd annual this year) held on Mad hatters day.
The idea is to get a team together and collect brand new hats for kids that are suffering hair loss due to treatments while battling cancer.
As you can imagine there are some great testimonials that really made me want to participate in this even more.
I emailed the site and the powers that be returned my email and told me my packet was in the mail.
In the packet there are a few things to help give one ideas about what to do and where to collect and what to collect.
The hats must all be brand new and placed in plastic see through bags individually, because of compromised immune systems of the future recipients.
After I received my packet I approached my boss at work and she was more than happy to let me put the collection box in our break room.
Not only that the company I work for is all over the U.S. so my boss called a couple of other cities and Challenged them to match our goal of 60 hats.
I don't blog here much, but do a lot of reading here and I know this is a site that can bring attention to all kinds of things. This fundraiser is one of the best ideas so I wanted to spread the info I know about it.
Tomorrow I will set out and try to set up drop boxes in other locations around the city, bec Tara (President and founder) emailed me today informing me she would be listing our fundraiser on their website. In the event others around the city wanted to donate they would need to know where the boxes are located.
So if you have a Facebook account check out the Hats Off For Cancer Cause.
If you want to see where events are near you, you can check back to the website and find a place to donate a new hat!
There is also a place to donate money online if youd prefer to just make a tax free monetary donation
Or there is still time to have the fundraiser in your area. The dates are oct 6-10th.
If you're not interested please pass thewebsite along to a friend.
Or if you know a kid that is going through treatment and needs a new hat you can request one here.
Thanks for reading.
