What a difference a week makes! Last Friday, all the Gopers were high-fiving and rejoicing over Chicago (and America's) loss in its bid to get the Olympics. How the rethugs reacted to that development compared to their reaction this morning to the news that OUR president won the 2009 Nobel Peace prize is a perfect example of just how consistently inconsistent the party of no really is.
I hate Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. I really do. When Brady or the Patriots fail, I get excited, I mean really excited. There was no happier person two years ago when the Patriots' perfect season was ruined by Eli Manning and the Giants' win in Super Bowl 42. Now, what has that got to do with last Friday, today, the Olympics and the Nobel Peace Prize? Well, read on.
As upset as I was over the Rethug's reaction to Chicago's failed bid to get the Olympics in 2016, I came to the realization that they didn't really hate Obama, they just treat politics like sports. Just as I really don't hate Brady, the Gopers don't really hate Obama. I'm just jealous, and so are they. Brady's handsome, married to a super-model, he succeeds seemingly through luck (the tuck rule for example), gets praise from the sports pundits even on a bad day (the 1st game of the year vs. Buffalo for instance), and on and on and on; very similar to Obama, except Obama has actually earned what he has (sorry, I promised myself I wouldn't hate on Brady too much here). In reality, I don't hate Tom Brady, I just want to be Tom Brady, and the Rethugs want to be Obama. So, I let it go. I let them have their fun.
And then today, at 6:00am, I was awoken by the sound of wingnuts' heads exploding all over the country. The tuck rule revisited. Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize! Suck it, Rethugs! Our turn to high-five and rejoice. We win!
But wait, there's more. Last Friday, when Chicago lost their bid to host the Olympics in 2016, the Rethugs claimed that Obama had failed. Failed!? Really? What had he done to help Chicago get the Olympics? He made one speech. One speech! And because of that one speech, Chicago's loss means that Obama was a failure.
Then this week, upon winning the Nobel Prize, after giving several speeches (much more than one) on peace and diplomacy, after staking out a doctrine based on diplomacy and a strong hand if necessary, after bringing North Korea back to the table (no longer an axis of evil), after bringing Iran to the table instead of a knee-jerk, physical response, after making inroads, albeit small inroads, into a middle east peace process, after dramatically improving America's image world-wide, after initiating efforts to close Gitmo, after beginning to end the war in Iraq, after all these things and more, somehow, after all this, the Gopers say that Obama doesn't deserve the award. WTF?
So one speech on behalf of Chicago means that Obama deserved the blame for the failed Olympic bid, but all the things I mentioned above means that Obama does not deserve the credit for the award he was given. Amazing. But like Jack Sparrow said (Captain Jack Sparrow), you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Likewise, you can always trust the Republican Party to be inconsistent, consistently.
Oh, and to the Republican Party: Suck it! Bwahahahahahah!
