What's the Arab word for chutzpah?...
I had no idea this had been their position for a long time, but apparently the Saudis are going to insist that if their revenue goes down due to reduced demand from countries under the global climate change agreements, then they will need to be paid the difference.
Saudi Arabia is trying to enlist other oil-producing countries to support a provocative idea: if wealthy countries reduce their oil consumption to combat global warming, they should pay compensation to oil producers.
Unbelievable.

What it looks like to me is just another way to make climate change legislation more expensive. But I think this could be used as a bludgeon issue, nailing the Saudis to all their allies on the right (and some Dems as well). Worried about how all that climate change legislation is going to be bad for business? Well so are the Saudis. We can use this to tie our opponents to a bunch of greedy bastards who have made billions destroying the planet and now want more.
And of course if we do it for them, then we'll need to pay the cigarette companies when people stop smoking. And pay the Health insurance companies when people are saved by airbags, seatbelts, and gun control laws. Think of all that revenue we cost them with our new laws.
Maybe the Saudis should have spent less on yachts and trips to France.
