The other day, I wrote a diary about the Republicans listing Jackie Robinson, the black baseball player that broke the color barrier in professional baseball, on their Republican Heroes page.
There were lots of interesting comments going into the history of the Democratic and Republican parties, and how they have changed since the 50/60's, and one of the most convincing comments was posted by Nova Land:
"Emphasizing that he was neither Republican nor Democrat, but that he prefers Nixon as the "better man", ... Jackie Robinson said he was 'positive' a Negro would be named to the Cabinet no matter who is elected president."
So, once again, the Republicans are trying to distort history.

Well, based on today's trip to espn.com, it looks like claiming black heroes isn't the only way that they are trying to woo minorities.
Sen. John McCain on Friday pressed President Barack Obama to give a posthumous pardon to Jack Johnson, the black heavyweight boxing champion who was imprisoned nearly a century ago because of his romantic ties with a white woman.
Posthumous Pardon Sought for Johnson
And now Sen. McCain and Rep. Peter King (R-NY) are blaming Obama for not acting on a resolution passed this summer:
"Regrettably, we have not received a response from you or any member of your administration," they wrote in Friday's letter, adding they hoped that Obama would be eager to "right this wrong and erase an act of racism that sent an American citizen to prison."
So, ironically, two Republican politicians are giving President Obama grief because he hasn't acted upon a resolution to reverse something that the majority of the members of their party would support if it happened today.
And its not as if President Obama hasn't been a little bit busy this summer...
