Grayson's not the only one with cojones
Ron Reagan Jr was laughed at and mocked while his father was president. Why? He was a ballet dancer (i.e. gay, even though he has been married for almost 30 yeas). He dropped out of Yale. He likes Buddhism. In other words, Ron Reagan Jr. committed the unforgivable sin of not being a chip off the Gipper block.
Yet Ron Reagan has been doing his father proud for many years by speaking from his heart, and defending his father's fundamental decency from the hacks who use Reagan as cover for their hatred.
I have not been able to find on You Tube the interview that Ron Regan did with Ann Coulter when her first big seller -- Treason -- came out. But no one since has eviscerated Coulter like Reagan did.
When Coulter asked Reagan if he had even read her book, he said "No. Have you read mine?" The rest of the media should have followed his dismissive example.
Last night on Hardball, Ron Reagan Jr showed a lot of his father's spine and fire, when he told Frank Gaffney -- like Cheney another war wimp (hawks who never served in the military) - to "watch your mouth" after this creep had the audacity to say that Reagan's father would be ashamed of his son. (See TPM today for the video.)
Here is Mr. Frank Gaffney saying all ye need to know and all ye will ever need to know about neocons (especially those with no record of military service) "
My position is [that] it is regrettable that any Americans died. It is regrettable that they had to die, but I believe they did have to die. The threat we did know about was the chemical capability that Saddam Hussein had used against his own people. The potential for biological agents were real there was evidence that there was an ongoing nuclear program... The danger was inaction could have resulted in the death[s] of a great many more Americans than 4,000 and that's the reason I'm still delighted that we did what we did."
They had to die. Frank is delighted that we did what we did -- which is fight a war history will undoubtedly judge not only as needless but one which destroyed U.S. credibility in the world.
Last night, Ron Reagan Jr. had enough of this guy. He ridiculed Gaffney for backtracking -- Saddam had "access" to WMD -- and called his bullshit about Iraq and Afghanistan (where of course we need to send thousands more men and women to die) absolutely without merit.
You have to give it to Ron. He got under Gaffney's skin big time -- he slapped him around just like his father would have when it comes to protecting American lives. So this week's Media Courage award goes to Ron Reagan Jr.
Hey MSNBC -- How about giving him a show again?
