Yesterday, President Obama planted a tree. That's not all that significant. But I had to laugh when I read this:
Barack Obama inherited from his predecessor, this one was relatively small.
There was a historically-significant hole on the White House North Lawn that needed to be filled, as it had been a year before him by George W. Bush and by another president more than a century before. W.'s tree, a Scarlet Oak, "did not take," and so, following White House tradition, Obama was called on to replace it.
Heh. A lot of things W. "planted" around this country "did not take", and so, following U.S. tradition, Obama was called on to replace them :o)
Here are some pics:
The President is very happy with his new tree:
"That's my tree, that's a nice looking tree," the President said noting that his grounds superintendent told him it would be grow to be a good-sized tree, "that’s a nice looking tree, don’t you think?"
Of course it was just a ceremonial type event, although it would have been great fun to see him out there in jeans, a t-shirt, and gardening gloves actually planting the tree. LOL.
and just for kicks/laughs, feel free to caption any of the photos in the comments :o)
