Yesterday I posted a diary about Noah Biorkman, a 5 year old boy from Michigan who is losing a battle with Neuroblastoma. (Google Health page for Neuroblastoma)
Yesterday's diary didn't get much traffic and slid down the list fairly quickly, but a special tip-o-the-cap to TexDem for bringing it up in the comment thread of Mojo Friday, to help direct traffic, and to all who dropped by and commented, and rec'd the diary itself.
So I'm trying this again. Below the fold is yesterday's diary with some new info added at the end.
Please spread the word on this.
I received Facebook status update from my cousin today that read:
PLEASE REPOST: Chad has a 5 yr old son Noah who is in the last stages of a 2 1/2 yr battle with Neuroblastoma Cancer. The family is celebrating Christmas next week and Noahs request is to get lots of Christmas cards. Lets get him some, please send cards to: Noah Biorkman 1141 Fountian View Circle, South Lyon,MI 48178-1568 Lets see how many cards we can get to this little guy. ~¿ó ®
So I decided to look into it a little further. Here's what Snopes has to say about it, and here's what Click on Detroit has to say about it. Link to video.
Noah Biorkman has been fighting cancer since he was 3 years old. He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in February of 2007, went into remission six months later but relapsed in September of 2008.
It seems to me that the least we can do is band together and make what little time this family has left with their son a memorable one.
Having just been blessed with my first child in July, I have been looking forward to spending our first Christmas together. If I knew that it was also going to be our last, I don't know what I would do. This family, to me, is the epitome of what putting up a brave front is. They know their time with their son is limited and they are doing everything in their power to make sure that the little time they have left is memorable. This little boy just wants to make his mark, like everyone else. Let's show him that he already has.
Here we have a little boy who has been dealt the harshest hand imaginable. He and his family have been forced to come to terms that they will not be able to share a lifetime of Christmas' together.
From the story:
“We made sure he got to have Christmas … my family dropped everything, they’re bringing the food, everybody’s coming and we’re all excited to spend Christmas with him this week,” Diana Biorkman said. “His time is very short.”
And the real tearjerker:
The 5-year-old said an angel figurine ornament was his favorite because it reminded him of where he’ll soon be.
“In heaven, and I’m going to be an angel,” Biorkman said.
Cards can be sent to:
Noah Biorkman
1141 Fountain View Circle
South Lyon, MI, 48178 - 1568
For the cost of a postage stamp and a Christmas card we can bring a little joy to a very deserving family
There is now an event page on Facebook with over 18,000 people planning on sending cards to little Noah.
Here is some video of Santa's arrival. and a sample of the world's giving spirit.
So what do you say Kossacks? Can we contribute to making this a memorable Christmas for the Biorkmans?
