The NY grassroots are getting ready for the next big hurdle in the health care reform battle -- the Senate.
And we're very excited about our first task. We are going to call Connecticut residents and urge them to call Senator Lieberman.
As you're all aware, Lieberman has voiced that he not only opposes the Senate bill, but would filibuster it in its current form.
We think that is simply unacceptable. And we know that our Connecticut neighbors feel the same way, so will be calling to remind them to call Lieberman and demand that he not block reform.
We're pretty jazzed about this task :)
But we're also looking ahead -- forming Rapid Response Teams that can take quick and effective action in response to things that happen in Congress. We will be ready to organize phonebanks and make hundreds or even thousands of phone calls on very short notice.
Here's what OFA says about the Rapid Response program.
OFA’s Rapid Response program is designed to utilize our 50-state grassroots strength to quickly, efficiently and effectively mobilize support in the coming weeks during critical moments of the health insurance reform campaign. We will be calling members of Congress in key states at key moments to help make sure reform passes.
These teams are being set up all across the country. If you'd like to join one, you can search for a Rapid Response organizing meeting near you. You can find other events through the link as well -- phonebanks, visits to Senators' and Reps' offices, rallies, canvasses, etc.
Or you can volunteer from home. A retooled Neighbor-to-Neighbor tool is available on your main mybo page (left column under your profile info).
Find a way to get involved. I can tell you from personal experience that it is a LOT more satisfying than screaming at (Lieberman on) the TV.
And anyone in NYC who wants to join Rapid Response, drop me an email: casperr67 at earthlink dot net.
