I'll keep this really short and avoid yet another parody.
If no one here were criticizing the President where he fell short of doing what we believe is right, doing what we believe is necessary, doing what we believe is possible, doing what we believe is politically popular, and doing what we think (rightly or wrongly) he promised (or implied he was prepared) to do, I would be very disappointed in this community.
If no one here were defending the President's accomplishments compared to what came before, what could have been, what a lesser Democrat could do, what he promised, what political openings and future hope they provide, I would be very disappointed in this community.
You're both right. Both sides of the argument are necessary for the President, the press, and everyone else to hear. Both are necessary to keep us on an even keel and to test the points where the President may veer too far in one direction or the other. We carry a two-fold message, held and expressed passionately on both sides, and it must be conveyed loudly and clearly.
So here is my advice to you quibbling, querulous people:
Learn to get along, learn to value each other's perspective as part of a necessary and critical dialectic, and enjoy your holiday!
You thought I was going to say "shut up"? No: never shut up!
None of you are losing me. We need this debate. We just don't need to be all agonized about it.
As one of my daughters would tell you now: "say what you have to say, but don't be so emo."
