He watched the downfall of General Motors for years and was right from the start
"As General Motors goes, so goes the country" was once a statement which many subscribed to, and for good reason. For years, the auto industry grew, and with it, their parent companies like General Motors.
But this all changed in the 1970's when the companies, now bloated conglomerates run by executives more interested in their golden parachutes and country club memberships than making good cars, started to lose their grip, both on their products and the future of the companies. They elected to tarnish their brands with bad cars, intent on short term profits, oblivious to the long term damage they were doing to their companies.
One man, Michael Moore, was there to point it out so clearly in his first major documentary movie, "Roger and Me". Then called a heretic by the cities and workers he was trying to defend, virtually everything he pointed out eventually came true.
Now, Moore is sending up another red skyrocket of warning to the President and the Democratic Party. The parallels between GM and the Democratic Party should be just as obvious now as the failures of GM were years ago. The party leaders including the President, cannot continue as they have for years, tarnishing the brand of the Democratic Party (DP) and expect to win elections. As the voters are increasing given a DP which shows contempt for its base and fails to arouse the hopes of new generations of voters, the apathy which reigned on the left for the last few election cycles before 2008 will return, and doom the party to a well deserved oblivion.
You can disparage Moore, as many here have done, but you cannot dispute his track record. The question is, when will the leaders heed his message?
