I hate that more troops are going into Afghanistan. I wish this wasn't the President's decisions. I'm pissed at the Bush Administrations, the neocons, Osama, and every damn body else for this war. I'm hate the decision that President Obama has made, but I'm not pissed because he's doing what he said he would do. He didn't lie, he didn't obfuscate, he has not betrayed liberals or progressives. Some one following threw on there words is honest even when disappointing.
I knew he would send more troops to Afghanistan. I believed him when he said he would many, many times on the campaign trail. I didn't think he was bullshitting when he made that crack about McCain not being willing to follow Osama into the cave where he lived during his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. I knew eventually he would make this decision and I wouldn't like it one bit.
And I voted for him anyway. And so did you. We can be upset about the decision, But this man that we voted for, is doing what he said he'd do. Maybe some of use weren't listening, but he said it. Maybe we missed this op ed in the NYT, but he wrote it.

As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan. We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there. I would not hold our military, our resources and our foreign policy hostage to a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq.
Sometimes people are not who we believe them to be, but the disappointment we experience is often as much our fault as the other person's. They are not responsible for you not believing them when they tell you who they are or what they are about. Like I said, I don't particularly like this course of action, but I did get the memo before election day. We all did. I will hold President Obama for what I see as his failings both personally and professionally, but I'm not going to act like he tricked me. He didn't. No one who voted for President Obama has been betrayed tonight. The only reason to feel that what is if you weren't listening to him or thought he was just talking smack. That is not his fault, whatever other faults he may have.
