I had the most awful dream last night. I dreamed that McCain and the Republicans had won the election and had veto proof majorities in both houses.
The nightmare started with Rick Warren giving the invocation at the inauguration.
President McCain naturally immediately re-appointed Bush's Fed chief Bernanke and homophobic Defense Secretary Gates.
Wall Street was immediately "bailed out". Yearly bonuses were secure.
The McCain Justice Department immediately began vigorously defending DOMA and DADT in numerous lawsuits.
Unlike the hoped for Obama administration, McCain made no effort to place openly GLBTs in cabinet positions - the best they could manage was one gay man in charge of human resources, whose first act was to oppose court-ordered federal benefits to married gay couples.
Because it was a campaign issue, the Republicans passed Healthcare Reform. Their version of "reform" was simply to make a law requiring everyone to buy insurance from for-profit insurance companies.
To make matters worse, seizing the opportunity the Council of Catholic Bishops met in the Majority Leader's offices and amended the law to make abortion more unavailable.
And naturally President McCain acquiesced to Gates and his Generals recommendations, dispatching further "surge" troops to the Middle East - National Guard units on their 5th rotations - and didn't see the need for any taxes to pay for such adventures.
Meanwhile in the States, McCain used no bully pulpit, of course, and marriage equality was overturned in Maine while the heavily Republican New York and New Jersey legislatures naturally turned it down.
Imagine my relief when I finally awoke and realized that, after all, the Dems had won the election :)
