Listening to the Kojo Nnamdi Show, a local political show here in the DC area, I was amazed to hear that there is a potential primary challenger to Donna Edwards. Yes, OUR Donna Edwards. Unfortunately, I am one district over from her, so was and will be unable to vote for her, but she is one of the progressive success stories of recent times, having knocked off a seemingly entrenched , pro-business, Democratic incumbent, she seems intent on actually working towards the goals that all of us at least profess to hold dear.
According to the Washington Post,
Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn F. Ivey said Wednesday that he has decided not to run for county executive and is forming an exploratory committee to look at challenging Rep. Donna F. Edwards in the Democratic primary next year.
Given ample opportunity by Kojo and his guest, Ivey refused to give reasons for his run against Donna. Kojo mentioned that Congresswoman Edwards had won against corporatist Al Wynn by pointing out how often he sided with business interests against his constituents-the people of the district; so, was Ivey close to business intersts? What had Edwards done or not done that made Ivey feel it was appropriate to challenge her in the primaries. All Ivey would say, and repeat over and over again was that "There will be ample time to draw distinctions.'
Show progressive Representative Donna Edwards that we've got her back. Write and/or donate to http://donnaedwardsforcongress.com/... There may still be an ActBlue page in her name. Also, let Ivey know that if he wants to advance his career as a Dem, he had better find a better way of moving forward than taking on one of our champions. Sorry for the short diary and I won't be around for a couple of hours - gotta pick up the kids, feed'em, etc. Ya know, but I wanted to get this out there. Thanks for listening.
