No, that's not really the topic of this diary, but it might as well have been the title to a number of other diaries and sums up the spirit of an increasing number of comments.
As I have perused the delightful diaries and comments about Sen. Lieberman (Fuckhead-CT), I can't help but notice the...how shall I put it, raging Jew-hatred that has reared its head here. Apparently no longer content with pretending to care about the plight of the Palestinians and thus cloaking their bigotry with marginally offensive language with regard to Israel, they've gone full blast with hatemongering diatribes about Sen. Joe Lieberman, his loyalties, and his faith.
No one is more disappointed in the obstinacy, incorrigibility, or betrayal of Democrats by Lieberman than me. But the steady drumbeat of naked anti-Semitism and the attacks on his wife have been rather alarming.
It's natural to detest Joe Lieberman right now: he has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the biggest shithead in the Democratic caucus, and perhaps the entire Senate. But if you check the diaries, or take a jaunt through hidden comments, you might be fooled into thinking this isn't a Democratic site but rather one dedicated to the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.
Some of the diaries include...
"Revoke Lieberman’s Dual Citizenship; He Doesn’t Care About Americans" where the diarist suggested that:
Joe Lieberman can always go to Israel as a citizen of that state and receive outstanding health coverage and treatment whenever he wants. For hurting, poor Americans who’ve lost their jobs because of corporate greed and Wall Street fraud, there is no such option.
It’s time take away Joe Lieberman’s dual citizenship. He’s more than made it clear that the well-being of poor and hurting Americans is not a priority for him.
If you're as anti-Semitic as this guy, why wouldn't you feel emboldened to post this kind of hate when your comment to the same effect got eleven recs? Indeed, while this comment was approved by a number of members, hidden comments is full of Nazi references and other hate-filled remarks.
In a remarkably similar diary titled "Lieberman supports Universal Healthcare - for Israeli’s (sic), we are told that...
If Senator Lieberman is so antagonistic to Universal Healthcare then he should step forward and criticize Israel for its healthcare system and sponsor a bill to REDUCE the Billions upon Billions of dollars we give to Israel, which ends up indirectly subsidizing their healthcare. Any claim that the money we give to Israel is for defense etc misses the point, if we didn’t give them untold Billions could they afford Universal Healthcare? If the Congress can pass a law to prohibit sex education and abortion in foreign aid then Leiberman et al should step forward and sponsor a bill to reduce aid to those countries with Universal Healthcare.
The 2.5 paragraph diary, "Quick, How to get rid of Lieberman!" has a suggestion for the POTUS:
Hey Obama,
Want to get rid of Lieberman? Here's how... First no Rahm. Next, pick up the phone and CALL BIBI. He's waiting so step on the gas.
It would be on thing if there was a comment here or there, but there have been several diaries, and a flood of comments effectively attacking Lieberman through his faith and his wife. And it is nothing short of shameful.
