Ah, let's hear it for the brilliance and innovation that is the GOP web-presence:
Pranksters Make Short Work of GOP’s URL Shortener for Conservatives
The Republican party took down its innovative link-shortening tool Tuesday after pranksters had a field day using the tool to associate the GOP with bondage sites. The website is back online [updated], and the company that designed the site in collaboration with the Republican National Committee plans to add an automatic filtering system to help with the high volume of what its president calls "pornographic, lewd" or "hateful" URLs being added to its service.
Actually, they had a nice note there on the site this morning:
Terms of Use:GOP.AM was created as a free service to make posting long URLs easier. If you use it for spamming, illegal purposes or to promote lude content, your GOP.AM URL will be disabled.
Yes, "lude content."
How many different ways can these idiots screw up?
Anyway, their mighty plan to conquer the internet continues apace, and there are plenty of examples over on Balloon Juice if you would like a chuckle. Or try your own hand at having Michael Steele stroll around, extolling the virtues of the bondage site of your choice. Just got to http://gop.am/... and have at.
