Face it, folks. You spent all your time and energy and effort and hope and dreams and money and blood and sweat and tears...and put it all on the wrong horse...(note, after the fold, that I'm really lazy about linking to sources...they are pretty much easy to locate, if you make me do it)...
Yeah, I told you so.
I've always felt myself to be a strongly pragmatic progressive. Sure, I celebrated the election and inauguration of the 44th president of the United States, and I joined with the millions who had helped get him into power. I let a little tiny teeny weeny bit of hope in, as pragmatically as possible. At the same time, I allowed myself to minimize my suspicion that he and his ilk were really just beholden to the same powers as the Bushies and St. Ronald Reagan himself. The great President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who brought us those "socialist" interstate highways that criss cross the country, warned us of this back about 11 months before I was born (go on read his speech if you haven't: it's online, just google it).
I'm not gloating. I just want everyone to admit it: none of these shits are going to lift a finger against their military-industrial complex overlords. You know, the Ones George Carlin told us about before his untimely departure.
Give it up people - we knew this was coming.
Remember the "Dean Scream"? That was those fucks torpedoing our chances. See, DailyKos exists mainly because those of us Deanies who had that early initial enthusiasm (I still point to my userID to attest that I indeed am instrumental one of the initial thousands responsible for the success of Kos). We wanted People Power to change things...but it's always been stacked against us...always.
I know, I sound defeatist, pessimistic, and skeptical. Actually, I'm not. I just want people to open their eyes and understand that public financing of elections will go a VERY VERY LONG WAY of erasing this blight on our beloved Republic. ONLY through public financing will we be able to experience REAL and LONGLASTING change. There will be TRUE accountability to WE THE PEOPLE, and not WE THE CORPORATIONS.
I really, really hate to sound like a gloating bully, and I know I do. This has been a sad week in history, and a horrible wake up call for those of you who bet on this horse.
Now, forget about health care, and the war, and the bailouts, and the clusterfuck real estate market, and the torture, and the secret prisons, and our fucked up environment and all the other shit that the hubris of the Shrub administration brought glaringly into the spotlight. No one of these corrupt bastards are going to move a muscle to stem the greed and avarice and feasting at the trough of the taxpayers that has gone on since St. Ronnie was sworn in. Not a one. Not ever.
Start giving money where it MIGHT actually matter, to organizations like youstreet.org or publicampaign.org (No, I'm not affiliated with either one, though I joined youstreet as an email member).
Once we have real reform, then we can have some hope, and we can change what needs changing.
As for me: not one dollar ever again to the Democrats (DLC, DCCC and all those party level orgs). I want reform in 2010, 2012 and beyond.
