The events of this week with regard to Health Care Reform and the past weeks of the escalation of the war in Afghanistan has brought many of us to serious feelings of disappointment, discouragement, despair. There is talk of leaving the Democratic Party and never voting again. And I say this is the time to increase our political activism. The election of Obama was not the end it was the beginning. He can not save us on his own we need to be involved, active, passionate revolutionaries.
It is the dead of winter and the season of holidays. Yet this is the time we must make our voices heard. I have been searching the internet and especially here on Daily Kos for someone, some group, some groups to organize the 60% of the American people who want real Health Care Reform.
The Democrats and Progressives have been lacking in organizing the message and the American people who support a progressive agenda. The so called Tea Party has backers and makes the evening news. I want to see progessives all across the country down at the federal buildings and city parks on one afternoon all across the land. I want to see as many people as gathered before we went to war in Iraq. If it has to be on Christmas Day so be it. How about the day after Christmas or the day after that! How can cyberspace be harnassed to make our voices heard? Obama was elected with donations of $10 and $20; everytime a cause is promoted on DK thousands of dollars are raised. We can find the money to make this happen.
We need a leader (we had such a leader in Obama) that can motivate and inspire us. We need message control and marketing. We need the ability to contact a great number of people. We need the many progressive groups, Code Pink, MoveOn.org, Progressive Democrats, Democrats, Health Justice, the unions, and many other too numerous to name, to join together and organize this revolution. Not a revolution of guns and violence but a revolution of voice, demands and truth.
I am ready to be a part of such a movement. I am not leaving the Democratic party and I will vote in the next election. However, I want my voice to be heard and I want to join with the millions of other who think and feel the same way about Health Care Reform, the War in Afghanistan and our Economy and make our voices heard. I am ready this day, this week, this month in the dead of winter in the midst of a holiday season.
