I have been meaning to write this diary for a while. My son bought Beatles
Rock Band for the Wii, and it totally kicks ass.
Disclaimer: The first album I ever bought was Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club
by The Beatles when I was thirteen. I think I wore that album out, and know
every song by heart.
And then 30 years later, along comes Beatles Rock Band. OH MY FUCKING
GOD. I experienced Nirvana. Really!
First, my son kept bugging me to watch the intro video. The short film of their
music plays a medley and amazing visual content to go along. Building
and climaxing with you wanting to play the damn thing.
Yeah, I know, pretty fucking great, now go play the game. I can't
really play the instruments very well, so I just sing. I have a crap
voice, but it doesn't matter. They have an easy no fail mode, so you can
sing your heart out, totally suck and still feel like you just sang with the
Beatles.
I love the rooftop songs, like I Get High With a Little Help
From My Friends, or Don't Let Me Down. Or singing something like
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.
And the visuals, they just blew me away. kaleidoscopes, and rainbows,
crazy patterns, and pulsing colors and movement. WOW!! I never loved
George Harrison more than I do now.
Something about While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It is just good for your
soul. George was all about love, I never realized before, but all his
songs are about love. The more I listen and interact with this game (It
really is more of an experience) the more I fall back in love with the
Beatles music.
With the way things are going, shitty health care bill, really bad
economy, no good news in sight, Well, playing Beatles Rock Band can
actually lift your spirits, and we all could use a little of that
right now.
Grabbing a little bliss when I can, and I highly recommend the Beatles,
you always come away feeling good, very good.
