We need more liberals in the house and senate. Period.
That's all we should be talking about, right through to the election in 2010.
If we'd had more liberals in the senate... I'd say about 10 or so, we wouldn't be looking at a huge giveaway to insurance companies. We'd have universal health care. There would be no mandate, because health care would just be free, and there would never actually be anything in particular to pay out of pocket, at all.
Just look at the versions of the health care bill offered by real liberals like Dennis Kucinich in the house and Bernie Sanders in the senate and you'd see just how horrible a result it is to have to bow to the needs and desires of the Ben Nelsons, Max Baucuses, and Joe Liebermans of the senate.
Of course you and I know that health care is not the only victim of the conservadem gauntlet. Everything that has passed this year has been a feeble shadow of what it could have been, and sometimes, worse than nothing at all.
We are trying to fly too close to the ground.
We can blame all of this on Obama, but he is merely trying to be a pragmatist through all of this conservative watering down that each bill has had to suffer just to get through, all year.
Let's focus our anger, frustration, and energy on senate races this coming year and see just what happens when the president has a few more liberals in the senate to get his back.
If we can do something to make it happen, we won't be disappointed.
