Maybe it's time to reverse the role of who is for "States Rights"
Why should conservative senators from many of the most dysfunctional backward states dictate to the rest of the country what can be done with respect to health care, reproductive rights, the environment?
Perhaps the focus of all progressives should be to a new approach to "States rights". Let each of the blue states adopt new progressive laws on health care, abortion rights and the environment at the state legislative levels. As time goes and these programs prove to be more beneficial to its citizens the red states will come along. Virginia, North Carolina , Indiana, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada are already tipping to blues states. Arizona, Montana and others are not far behind.
We have been given ample evidence in the past week that the conservative minority through the Senate rules of filibuster are dead set against letting the county move ahead with any kind of meaningful reforms.
Progressives should give up on the federal government and simply make the changes that need to be made on the state levels. Let the red states stay in the dark ages for awhile. They will eventually see the errors of their ways as join the majority.
Simply from a strategic standpoint. Progressives should enact meaningful change on the state level. Electing a progressive president has proven fruitless. Even getting close to a 60% majority through elections in Congress has proven fruitless.
From a purely political science standpoint it's time to lead by example and proof of success on the state level. The south and the handful of other states the conservatives control will follow in due course.
