But strangely enough that wasn't the headline on the CBS poll. The CBS headline read: Poll: Obama Health Care Marks Hit New Low
But right below that headline was a a chart of poll results on "Health care reform in Congress" broken down into three metrics.
Covering Americans: A plurality of 35% say Not Far Enough
Controlling Costs: A plurality of 39% say Not Far Enough
Regulating Health
Insurance Costs: A plurality of 43% say Not Far Enough
CBS is more interested in emphasizing that support for the Health Care Reform has slipped lower, instead of reporting that support slipped because the plan in Congress falls short of what Americans want.
The public is divided on whether the reforms go too far or not far enough in providing health coverage to as many Americans as possible, and about four in 10 think the reforms do not do enough to lower costs or regulate insurance companies.
Their own poll shows that most Americans want real health care reform, and a plurality think the corporate oriented plan working its way through the Congress is too watered down to get the job done. CBS is missing the real story here IMHO.
This should come as no surprise to the Netroots:
Approval among each party's own supporters is also low. Just 48 percent of Democrats approve of how Democrats in Congress are handling health care, while only 43 percent of Republicans approve of how their party in Congress is handling the issue.
Democrats are underwhelmed by how Congressional Dems didn't rise to the challenge of producing real health care reform. This disaffection could spell disaster for the Party next Fall. Why are so many in Congress oblivious to the rising tide of popular disappointment in their sausage making abilities?
Hat tip for joanneleon's comment on this poll.
